Question Words for Kids (Grade 2)

Have you ever asked something like “What is that?” or “Where are we going?” Those are called question words. Question words help us ask for information. They help us learn new things about people, places, time, and reasons. The most common question words are: Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How.

1. Who 👤

We use who to ask about a person.

Examples:

Who is your teacher?

Who is playing in the park?

✔ Example answer: My teacher is Ms. Ana.

    2. What 📦

    We use what to ask about a thing or idea.

    Examples:

    What is your favorite food?

    What is in your bag?

    ✔ Example answer: My favorite food is rice and chicken.

      3. When ⏰

      We use when to ask about time.

      Examples:

      When do you wake up?

      When is your birthday?

      ✔ Example answer: I wake up at 7 o’clock.

        4. Where 📍

        We use where to ask about a place.

        Examples:

        Where do you live?

        Where is the school?

        ✔ Example answer: I live in Cebu.

          5. Why 🤔

          We use why to ask about a reason.

          Examples:

          Why are you happy?

          Why do birds fly?

          ✔ Example answer: I am happy because I passed my test.

            6. How ⚙️

            We use how to ask about the way something happens.

            Examples:

            How do you go to school?

            How do you make a sandwich?

            ✔ Example answer: I go to school by bus.
